Neuropsychological consultation

What is a neuropsychology consultation?

At CERC, we understand how difficult it can be to navigate the multitude of structures and professionals offering pediatric services.

That's why we offer consultation services to people who may need a neuropsychological assessment, to help them take stock of their current situation and make the most appropriate decision in the current context.

How does a neuropsychological consultation work?

A neuropsychological consultation is a meeting lasting around 60 to 90 minutes between parents and a neuropsychologist. The neuropsychologist will ask you a number of questions to determine the potential origin of your child's day-to-day difficulties.

Following this interview, the neuropsychologist will advise you on the best course of action to take: neuropsychological assessment, psychological follow-up, occupational therapy, parental coaching, psychoeducation or other.

How are neuropsychologists trained?

Neuropsychologists have undergraduate training in psychology, followed by post-graduate training (master's and/or doctorate) in neuropsychology. Neuropsychologists are members of the Ordre des Psychologues du Québec (OPQ), which verifies their qualifications and insures quality of practice. Psychotechnicians are graduate students in neuropsychology, working under the supervision of a senior neuropsychologist. Neuropsychologists and psychotechnicians have been scrupulously selected and trained by our team at CERC, to ensure consistency of service and quality of professional practice. Our team is our pride and joy, and makes CERC an exceptional clinic.

Why a neuropsychology consultation?

A neuropsychological consultation is essential for those experiencing cognitive, emotional or behavioral difficulties. Neuropsychology specialists study how the brain works and how it influences our thoughts, emotions and actions.

During a neuropsychological consultation, the professional assesses cognitive functions such as memory, attention, language, visual-spatial abilities and executive functions. This detailed assessment helps to understand a person's cognitive strengths and weaknesses, as well as any neurological disorders or brain injuries.

By understanding these aspects, the neuropsychologist can recommend intervention strategies, therapies or exercises aimed at improving cognitive abilities and managing the difficulties encountered. Whether dealing with neurological disorders, traumatic brain injury, learning disabilities or other cognitive problems, neuropsychological consultation offers personalized solutions to help individuals improve their quality of life and regain their independence.

Are the costs covered by my insurance?

Coaching and parenting support are covered by your insurance, just like psychology sessions. In many cases, the out-of-pocket expenses are minimal. Contact us for more information.
