Dr Andrée-Anne Chouinard

Neuropsychologist

Andrée-Anne Chouinard completed her doctorate in psychology at Université Laval in 2011, and in 2012 obtained her certifications for the assessment of neuropsychological disorders and the practice of psychotherapy.

From the start of her studies, Andrée-Anne has been interested in early childhood, notably as part of her thesis entitled "La contribution de la sensibilité maternelle au développement langagier selon le temps de gestation et l'état de santé de l'enfant à la naissance" ("The contribution of maternal sensitivity to language development according to gestation time and the child's state of health at birth"), but also as part of her university internships. For example, she has worked with young children hospitalized in the child psychiatry center at CHUQ's Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur, as well as with children aged 0-17 seen at the subspecialized autism spectrum disorder diagnostic evaluation clinic at Hôpital Rivières-des-Prairies in Montreal. It was here that she began her professional career, working for 3 years as a neuropsychologist in the early childhood psychiatric clinic (0-6 years), with a mandate to assess and briefly follow up with children and their parents.

Always interested in working with children and their families, Andrée-Anne then decided to go and work on the front line at the CLSC Samuel-de-Champlain at the CISSS de la Montérégie-Centre in the Santé Mentale Jeunesse program. For 5 years, she assessed and intervened with children and adolescents presenting a variety of serious mental health problems (e.g., behavioral disorders, parent-child relationship disorders, attachment disorders, personality disorders).

Parallel to this mandate, she joined the Clinique d'Évaluation du Trouble du Spectre de l'Autisme of the CISSS de la Montérégie-Centre in 2013. Over a period of 10 years, she was able to develop considerable expertise in autism, both through the number and diversity of children she met, and through a number of training courses on the subject. Andrée-Anne's diagnostic mandate gave her a central role in her multidisciplinary team. She is therefore fully conversant with the assessment tools used to diagnose autism (ADI-R, ADOS), as well as the neuropsychological evaluation tools used to establish differential diagnoses (e.g. ADHD, giftedness, intellectual disability, global developmental gaze, oppositional disorder with or without provocation, Tourette syndrome).

Andrée-Anne's many years of experience and knowledge of a wide range of clienteles make her a skilled neuropsychologist, both in assessment and psychotherapy for children with a variety of neurodevelopmental problems.

Last but not least, Andrée-Anne, in addition to being a dedicated neuropsychologist, is an active person with a passion for the outdoors, practicing several sports such as cycling and downhill skiing.
