The Day-to-Day Life of a Psychoeducator: What Does Support Look Like in Laval?

Based on this understanding, the psychoeducator can implement practical, structured interventions to help the individual regain a better sense of balance. In particular, the support provided may aim to:

  • Better management of emotions, stress, or anxiety
  • The Development of Social and Interpersonal Skills
  • Adjusting Daily Routines and Points of Reference
  • Reducing behaviors that interfere with functioning at home, at school, or in other settings
  • Supporting parents in implementing concrete and consistent measures
  • Support during difficult times, such as a transition, a breakup, a loss, or a buildup of stress

At the CERC Clinic in Laval, psychoeducational care begins where real life takes place: at home, at school, and in everyday relationships. The psychoeducator seeks to understand what is happening in the individual’s specific context—their routines, challenges, and resources—in order to propose interventions that are truly tailored to that context.

The scope of practice for a psychoeducator is broad. They can support individuals experiencing adjustment difficulties, behavioral disorders, relationship issues, academic challenges, certain developmental conditions such as ASD or ADHD, or situations that threaten family stability.

In practical terms, the process begins with an assessment meeting with the family. This first step allows the psychoeducator to understand the family’s living situation, family dynamics, school routines, and social relationships, and to work with the family to identify the priorities to address.
