Émilie Ferland

Émilie Ferland is a doctoral candidate in psychology at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). Trained in the cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) approach, she first completed an internship at UQAM's Centre de Services Psychologiques (CSP), working with children. This internship enabled her to develop key skills in affective and cognitive assessment, intervention and parental guidance. Émilie then completed an internship at CERC under the supervision of psychologist Dr. Marie-Hélène Guay, to enrich her practice by integrating systemic and dynamic approaches. This experience also enabled her to deepen her knowledge of trauma-related issues and practice play therapy with children. Émilie is completing her clinical training in a hospital setting with a child psychiatric clientele presenting a variety of difficulties, including attachment disorders, complex traumas and neurodevelopmental disorders with psychiatric comorbidities. She will be trained primarily in relational assessment and intervention, using a psychodynamic and mentalization-based approach.
In the course of her past professional experience, she has also had the opportunity to work with school-age students, college athletes with concussions or attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity (ADHD), as well as immigrant women in the process of socio-professional integration.
Émilie's background in children's mental health has enabled her to appreciate the potential for sustainability of interventions with this clientele, so much so that this is what motivates her every day to support their development and fulfillment in the interventions she carries out with them and their loved ones. In addition, her research interests in autism and the stigmatization of people with this condition lead her to pay particular attention to providing an inclusive therapeutic space open to difference.
Émilie is a doctoral student in psychology who stands out for her professionalism and gentleness. Empathy and a concern for treating the individuals and families she sees with the utmost respect are at the heart of her practice. At CERC, Émilie offers integrative play and talk psychotherapy for children, adolescents and young adults, as well as parenting guidance. She helps her clients cope with various psychological issues, deal with life events and work through difficulties in family dynamics.
